Violet M. Gerhart Blessing, 81, of Bethany Village United Methodist Retirement
Center, Mechanicsburg, and formerly of New Cumberland, died Sunday, December
1, at her residence. Born in Oberlin, she was the daughter of the late Irvin
and Mary Sheetz Gerhart. She was a retired clerk for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
She was a 1927 graduate of the former Swatara Township High School where she
had played basketball. She was a former member of the Centenary United Methodist
Church, Steelton and the New Cumberland Senior Citizens Center. She was the
widow of Russel S. Blessing, who preceded her in death on March 21, 1978.
She is survived by: two sons, Russell C. Blessing, Harrisburg, and James T.
Blessing, Philadelphia; a sister, Mariam, wife of Samuel A. Reed, Rd 3, Hummelstown;
six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Interment was in the Churchville
Cemetery, Oberlin. Friends were invited to call at the funeral home Wednesday
from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service.
He was married to Violet Mary GERHART
(daughter of Irvin GERHART and Mary SHEETZ).
Violet Mary GERHART was born about 1910 in Oberlin, Pa.. She died
on 1 Dec 1991. Russell Sage BLESSING and Violet Mary GERHART had the following
