148. Charles S. BLESSING
was born on 24 Feb 1841 in Derry Township, Dauphin County, Pa.. He died
on 28 Jun 1912 in Middletown, Pa.. He has descendant number 1-9-5-12. He was
ill with pulmonary tuberculosis. He was a saddler. He was buried in Middletown
Cemetery, Middletown, Pa.. The information on Charles comes from copies of Bureau
of Pensions applications filed by Charles and subsequently by his wife Jennie
Finkenbinder.
Charles served in Company A and then Company K of the 50th Infantry of the Pennsylvania
Veteran Volunteers. He was a private and served from September 16, 1861 to September
16, 1864. He mustered in at Harrisburg at the age of 20 years. He was discharged
at Indianapolis, Indiana. On or about July 1863, while on duty at Jackson, Mississippi,
he was disabled by rheumatism, chronic diarrhoea and disease of the
heart. He was treated in General Hospital in Camp Denison, Ohio from August 20,
1863 to October 31, 1863.
Charles was first married to a Harriet Blattenburg, however she was never divorced
from her first husband while she was married to Charles. It was this fact that
caused the pension bureau to rejected Harriet's application for a pension. See

Charles later married Jennie Finkenbinder in 1902 by the Rev. E. Ludwick in
Middletown, Pa. Jennie had married a William Horn February 28, 1871 but divorced
him September 24, 1902, three months before she married Charles. Jennie then
married a George Brown after Charles died.
No record, to date, (1996) has been found of any children to Charles or the
date of his marriage to Harriet. Charles lived at 350 E. Main Street, Middletown,
Pa.
